Lack of Mental Control Leads to Distraction

Workers often get distracted on the job. How many times have you been sitting at your desk when your mind started to wander? Did you get distracted by your phone, checking your social media accounts or checking to see if anyone had texted you, even though you knew they hadn't? It happens.

The reason, some experts note, is a lack of mental control. When people have to use anti-distraction apps on their phones and things of this nature, they're just trying to make up for this lack of control. Some say they would be far better off to train themselves so that they wouldn't need external motivation and could stay focused without it.

Unfortunately, for many workers, that's just not a reality. The distractions are too tempting. The work feels too boring. They seek out distractions and try to find some way to pass the time.

This is potentially dangerous in many occupations, but it's especially bad when it happens to truck drivers. When they lack mental control and focus on the road, they may stop paying attention to the traffic around them. They may break the rules and use their phones while they drive. Even a truck driver whose mind wanders, though his or her hands never leave the wheel, can cause an accident.

The problem is that these employees hold a lot of other drivers' safety in their hands. Distraction and lack of focus can put people in the hospital.

If you get injured in one of these accidents, you must know all of your legal rights to seek out financial compensation.
