One of the most dangerous situations for motorcyclists is when a driver doesn't see them and decides to pull out into traffic. When the driver crosses the motorcyclist's path and he or she blocks the roadway, it can make it nearly impossible for the motorcyclist to dodge an accident.
On impact, the motorcyclist hits head on. If the motorcyclist has a helmet, there is some protection, but even then, the force of the accident can be devastating and lead to life-threatening injuries or death as the person hits the vehicle or roadway. For those who survive, it's possible to claim compensation for injuries and lost wages, while those who pass away leave their families to deal with the legal aspects of the case.
That's the kind of crash that took place in this case, which left one person dead. The fatal crash involving a motorcyclist was reported in Colorado Springs. According to the report from Oct. 8 on KKTV 11, the motorcyclist had been driving on Woodmen Road when a Penske truck turned south onto Austin Bluffs Parkway. It's not clear if the driver was unaware of the motorcyclist or thought he had enough time to turn, but the truck collided with the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene when help arrived.
The news reports that the roads were closed following the crash while the case was investigated. So far, it's not clear if the district attorney will file charges; the on-call attorney went to the scene of the accident to make that determination. Additionally, the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.
