When you get on the roads, you want to know that the people around you are licensed and paying attention. If you're involved in a crash with a distracted driver, it's no fault of your own, and you should be able to seek compensation.
A truck driver who was involved in a serious collision in Colorado previously had been involved in two other crashes, but he was still behind the wheel. According to the news, he had been in an accident in 2015 where federal regulators claimed he didn't have a commercial driver's license.
In this crash, the 60-year-old man has not yet been cited. The Colorado State Patrol has reported that the crash was caused by distracted driving. Because of the collision, five people had to be taken to local hospitals, including two children.
In the first car hit by the truck driver, four people were injured. They were a 40-year-old man and woman along with their 5-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son. The children suffered serious injuries, and their parents were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The owner of the company the driver works for claims the driver never had anything like this happen before. Federal records show that the company, Grabow Trucking, was cited three times between 2014 and 2016; one of the citations was for a crash where a tractor-trailer went off the road and rolled onto its side; that truck was driven by the same driver. That creates even more questions about the company and driver's safety record overall.
