Motorcyclist injured avoiding accident in CO | Doehling Law

Anyone who has spent time on a motorcycle knows that other drivers on the road aren't always on the lookout for bikers. Even though motorists should always be paying attention, many motorcyclists feel the need to be extra vigilant and ride defensively in order to avoid accidents.

One Colorado biker tried to avert a collision with an inattentive motorist, but those efforts came up short. According to reports from police, the motorcyclist was traveling down the road when a driver took a left turn right in front of him. The cyclist noticed this and tried to take action, but his motorcycle wound up pinned under the vehicle. He was brought to a local hospital for medical attention.

After the accident, police cited the driver for making an illegal left-hand turn. Although the driver could face legal penalties as a result of the traffic violation, the biker may have the option to file a civil suit.

In this case, the biker shouldn't have had to make an evasive maneuver. The other driver failed to yield to the motorcyclist who was clearly driving in the oncoming lane of traffic. Perhaps, if the driver wasn't so careless, this motorcycle accident could have been prevented.

Of course, the motorcyclist and his loved ones are thankful his injuries are not life threatening. Because motorcycles don't offer the same physical protection as passenger vehicles, bikers are particularly vulnerable to fatal injuries. Still, the injuries that resulted from this crash could prove to be costly and painful. A civil suit filed as a result of the other driver's negligence could be helpful in the biker's physical and financial recovery.
