August 11, 2009 - Plane Readied for Lifting from Hudson
New York Police divers attached chains Tuesday to the wreckage of a small plane, preparing it to be lifted from the Hudson River.
Authorities said the operation would be carried out late Tuesday afternoon. The plane was found lying on its side at the bottom of the river, CNN reported. Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne said a crane would carry out the task after divers attached more straps to the plane's fuselage.
The Piper Saratoga PA-32 clipped a sightseeing helicopter Saturday, sending both aircraft into the river. All nine people on board both were killed, including five Italian tourists in the helicopter.
Seven bodies have been recovered. An eighth was spotted in the wreckage of the plane.
The helicopter was retrieved Sunday.
The collision has led to calls for more restrictions on use of airspace around Manhattan.
