March 17, 2004 - Nurse Sentenced For Abuse Of Nursing Home Patient
A Milwaukee nurse will serve 13 months for the intentional abuse of a 79-year-old nursing home patient.
Milwaukee County Circuit Judge David Hansher also forbade Sharon Dawson from working as a nurse, or in any other job in a nursing home or assisted-living facility.
Besides her prison term, she'll also be on probation for 35 months.
Dawson pleaded guilty the charge in January.
A criminal complaint said Dawson force-fed Rosie Brown gelatin and juice when Brown's blood-sugar level dropped.
Brown, whose swallowing problem got in the way, died an hour later.
Authorities said police were never called to the scene.
Medical examiners ruled the death natural, the result of a heart attack from complications of diabetes.
