You Can Make a Claim as a Passenger in a Car Accident

When you get into a car accident, you're not the only person who suffers. Anyone who is riding in your vehicle could be injured and be faced with recovery and lost time at work, amongst other issues. If you're a passenger on public transportation or are injured while riding in someone else's car, you'll find yourself in a situation where you need to make a claim for compensation, too. Who do you claim against, though?

Much like the driver of a car, you can file a claim against the insurance of a negligent driver in an accident. When you're the passenger of public transportation, you may be able to make two claims; one will be made against the driver, while the other, a third-party claim, can be made against the company that hired the driver, as it can be held liable for his or her actions.

When you file your claim, there are a few things you may need to provide as proof of your injuries. You'll have to show that you were in the accident, that you were injured, and that the driver was negligent in some manner (on public transportation). If you're injured while riding in a car that's struck, you will need to provide information about your injuries to the insurance carrier that covers the at-fault driver, whether that's the driver of the vehicle you were in or the driver of another vehicle that struck you.

As a passenger, it can sometimes be hard to know how to proceed. Our website has more information on how you can make a claim for compensation, so you can focus on your recovery.
